Aba Abate is the mother of two teenagers and the wife of Paolo, a naturally optimist advertising man. Aba does everything in her power to keep her family united although this is not always easy. Almost never easy, actually, because of her job. Because Aba Abate is also Ice: a spy and not a harmless civil servant, as her family thinks. Aba runs a network of mosque infiltrators and learns from one of her informers of some terrible news and a pressing deadline: a week from now, a little boy, a suicide bomber, is coming to Italy. So Ice has to intervene in person, in the field, if she wants to intercept the young man before he leaves Libya. However, none of the plans implemented yield the hoped-for results, and Aba’s entire world – both personal and professional – seems to come crashing down…

  • Bravo, Roberto Costantini!

    Jeffrey Deaver

  • “… Roberto Costantini pushes all the right buttons.”

    The Sunday Telegraph

  • “… engages, despite the sometimes-ponderous pace.”

    The Guardian

  • Roberto Costantini is an unparalleled master […]. His talent has something fierce about it.

    Antonio D’Orrico, Corriere della Sera

  • To classify Costantini as an ‘ordinary’ crime writer would be tantamount to a gross miscalculation, since (…) he has a naturally Dickensian spirit which, coupled with his fast-paced storytelling, makes him one of a kind.”

    Sergio Pent, “ttL”, La Stampa

  • What is special about Costantini is that he revisits noir and gives his characters a psychological dimension.

    la Repubblica

  • Costantini has a sharp insight. His words remain stamped in your memory, as does his gallery of imperfect, suffering characters who try and give ordinary, everyday survival a meaning.

    Marco Imarisio, Corriere della Sera

  • “A thriller that emanates from the topicality of terrorist attacks, news of refugee landings, as well as the fear of those who leave and those who welcome them. A delicate and ‘hot’ topic with confidence, through a story with a complex structure and characters rich in facets and nuances, as well as through situations tackled sensitively.”

    Severino Colombo, Corriere della Sera

  • “A fast-paced spy story.”

    Il Fatto Quotidiano

  • “From the first to the last page, identifying with the (fascinating) character and her (compelling) story, wishing to know how things turn out.”

    Lorenzo Cresci, “ttL”, La Stampa
