Bollati Boringhieri editore

Identity

Acquired by the GeMS group in 2009, Bollati Boringhieri was founded in 1957, when Paolo
Boringhieri took over part of Einaudi’s publishing catalogue to focus on their science, mythology, and ethnography titles. Since then, the two, equally important, guiding spirits of the publishing house – the scientific arm (mathematics, logic, physics and the natural sciences) and the humanities (history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, psychology and art history) – have followed parallel and complementary paths in full harmony. In a catalogue which to date has no equal in Italian publishing, groundbreaking works by the greatest scientific minds such as Niels Bohr, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi and Wolfgang Pauli sit alongside the writings of eminent scholars of mythology such as Mircea Eliade, Furio Jesi and Károly Kerényi; other ethnology experts like Ernesto de Martino; and those celebrated analysts of the human psyche, Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung, whose Complete Works was first translated and brought to an Italian readership by this very imprint.
In 1987, the new editorial director, Giulio Bollati, promoted an integrated approach to culture within the publishing house, freeing it from the constraints of division by disciplines. New series were developed and, over the years, Bollati Boringhieri started to branch out into contemporary history, narrative, memoirs and literary essays. Among the most recent and prestigious acquisitions are works by Giorgio Agamben, Jim Al-Khalili, Marc Augé, Lucia Berlin, Christopher Bollen, Elizabeth Brundage, Eric H. Cline, Gherardo Colombo, Helen Czerski, Edmund De Waal, Donatella Di Cesare, Louise Doughty, Francesco Filippi, Christophe Galfard, Katie Kitamura, Serge Latouche, Leon M. Lederman, Giacomo Marramao, Claire Messud, Celeste Ng, Julie Otsuka, Francis Spufford, Andrea Tarabbia, Ece Temelkuran, Mary Barbara Tolusso, Hans Tuzzi, Umberto Veronesi, Elizabeth Von Arnim, James Owen Weatherall and Luigi Zoja.
