Siegfried Stohr (Rimini, 1952) is a former Formula One driver and a psychologist. In 1982, he founded Italy’s first safe driving school and has since been a leading expert in driving safety and performance. He has collaborated with several newspapers and magazines, writing mainly on road safety and driving awareness.
Often seen as a symbol of freedom, driving can also become a powerful trigger for anxiety. This practical guide — combining the expertise of a psychologist and a former Formula One champion — offers an integrated psychological and behavioural approach to overcoming fear, rebuilding confidence at the wheel, and reclaim independence.
Often associated with freedom and pleasure, driving can instead become a source of intense anxiety. Even licensed drivers may experience panic and loss of control, as hidden psychological conflicts surface in a situation that requires constant attention and performance.
Drawing on real clinical cases, this work examines the most common fears linked to driving, including agoraphobia, claustrophobia, panic attacks, and obsessive anxiety. Combined with a practical training method developed by a professional racing instructor, it offers an integrated psychological and behavioral path to overcoming driving anxiety, rebuilding confidence behind the wheel, and restoring personal independence.
