In 2025, while Gaza remained under siege and much of the world watched in silence, hundreds of activists from 44 countries launched the Global Sumud Flotilla: 45 civilian boats carrying humanitarian aid and a political message that could no longer be ignored. Crossing the Mediterranean in defiance of passivity, paternalism and institutional indifference, they transformed solidarity into collective action.

Although the flotilla was ultimately prevented from reaching Gaza, it mobilized hundreds of thousands of people worldwide and became a powerful symbol of civil resistance. More than the story of a mission, this is a testimony about what happens when ordinary people refuse to look away in front of injustice.

Because preventing a civilian flotilla from reaching Gaza does not simply mean stopping an act of solidarity: it means contributing to silence.
